Tephra ICA Alloy Project
These dually authored artworks showcase the interaction between two distinct voices in contemporary art and are available as signed limited edition prints.
The Alloy Project, Tephra ICA's Annual Benefit offers new collaborative artworks for purchase and free arts experiences for audiences of all ages culminating in a ticketed evening Cocktail Event. This year, The Alloy Project invited five pairings of contemporary artists to engage in a process of creative response, generating five original collaborative works of art and a series of limited-edition prints. Like an alloy, these art works result from bringing together two distinct elements, creating new synergies and possibilities.

The Trawick Prize award winners will be announced on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. The Best in Show, first place winner will be awarded $10,000; second place will be honored with $2,000 and third place will be awarded $1,000. This year's jurors are Christopher Bedford, Director of The Baltimore Museum of Art; Sukjin Choi, Head of Ceramics and Associate Professor of Art at James Madison University; and Valerie Fletcher, Independent Art Historian and Senior Curator Emerita at the Hirshhorn Museum.

BEES
A BIG IDEA Project of the Sun Valley Museum of Art
April 13 - June 22, 2018
This BIG IDEA project explores the central role pollinators play in our food supply and our environment. It offers a community-wide conversation about the challenges bees and pollinators face today, from colony collapse disorder to shrinking habitat. One factor behind The Center’s decision to pursue a project on bees is the appeal the topic holds for contemporary artists working across the disciplines. The project presents work by visual artists, filmmakers and playwrights who have all chosen to illuminate the mysterious world of bees and other pollinators through their artistic practices, celebrating pollinators’ diversity and their contributions to our ecosystems.
The Center commissioned artist Mary Early to create a site-specific installation in its Project Room gallery. Working with beeswax, Early has used simple, repeating forms and shapes to create a geometric installation that hangs from the ceiling. Visitors are invited to move through the space, taking in the fragrance of beeswax as they experience the installation.

Hope Chest: Traditionally in the form of a wooden trunk or box, contained the dowry of a young woman. The box and its content played an important part not only in the business transaction between two families, but served as a survival kit for the new life a girl was about to enter. The Hope Chest didn’t just contain the objects that would secure a young women’s future but comprised her heritage, her sense of belonging. With this in mind we produced a Hope Chest that traveled from the Old World to the New World and then back again. At each station a group of artist participated in shaping the content of the box and therefore the exhibition. With this gesture of sharing and hands-on participation we want to highlight the international intellectual exchange within the European – North American Art community, and therefore this exhibition series allows maximum visibility of this inspirational exchange. Includes works by Washington DC artists Zoë Charlton, Mary Early, Maggie Michael, José Ruiz and Dan Steinhilber.
